happy to get to add a session with karl ameriks to our winter quarter line-up; friday feb 9, we’ll discuss the first chapter of karl’s new book on ‘kantian dignity’

Welcome back! I hope your quarters are off to a great start. We have a great line up of speakers this quarter. Our first meeting will be on Friday, Jan. 26; Dominic Bailey (CU Boulder) will share some of his work with us.

Welcome back to campus! We are kicking off our Fall 2023 HOPR line-up on Friday 10/13, 2:15-3:45, with a visit by Prof. John Proios (University of Chicago). We will discuss his paper draft, “The Knowledge of Free People: Dialectic, Intelligibility, and Liberation in Plato’s Sophist.” As usual, this will be a read-ahead event — I will be circulate a draft of the paper one week before our meeting. this quarter we are welcoming everyone back to campus, and kicking off our fall 2022 hopr line-up with an in-person meeting on friday october 7 with our very own jc gonzalez, who will present work in progress on kant’s theory of concepts and how it is supposed to fit with kant’s account of purposiveness — the rest of the fall schedule is more or less set, and it looks like we have some great hopr’s in store for winter and spring as well

we are back to online meetings for the month of january — including our first meeting on jan 14 with julia grieg (ucsd), on the concept of death in epicurean thought — scheduling is underway and later meetings for the term will be announced hopefully in the next week or so

we’ll kick off the new term and new year on friday jan 22, with a discussion of a paper by zack brants (ucsd) on pleasure in the philebus
